The Career Pathways program provides an opportunity for neurodiverse students to enhance both academic and professional skills in an empowering learning environment. Career Pathways students have brought their many strengths to over 40 other college programs and a variety of industries beyond graduation.

The placement is a key part of the program where students build on their professional skills and receive valuable mentorship through real-world employment experience. In partnering with the Career Pathways program, the community partner benefits from working with students with a unique perspective who are reliable, supportive, and empathetic. It also provides the community partner with exposure to the benefits of neurodiversity in the workplace, reinforcing the importance of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

Expected outcomes and deliverables
  • Students will be available for 7 hours of project work over 10 weeks (total of 70 hours)
  • Students will be available virtually through Skype , Microsoft Teams, Zoom and/or email
  • Throughout the duration of the project, students will be provided with ongoing direct supervision by Field Placement Coordinator; Field Placement Coordinator will also liaise with community partner should issues arise

Additional company criteria

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

To provide measurable, realistic and task-based goals for the project throughout the placement term

Provide a dedicated contact (Placement Supervisor) who is available to answer emails or phone calls to address studentsโ€™ questions and liaise with Field Placement Coordinator

Collaborating with Field Placement Coordinator to manage overall expectations

Bi-weekly check-ins (virtual or by email)

Providing accommodations such as instructions in writing or providing extra time to complete tasks within pre-determined timeframe
