Student Projects

How we can help

In this project, a team of students will help your company understand and solve a UX/UI design problem over a seven week period. Students will work as a team to apply their skills as the "capstone project" in their certificate program.

User Experience (UX) Design and User Interface (UI) Design are the two sides of user-centred design, an emergent field that has seen rapid growth over the past few years. UX explores what it means to be user-centred, while UI other examines how users interact within a space. Both require skills in design thinking, research, and working with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Program Background

Our UX/UI Certificate Program teaches how to approach problems from a user-centred perspective, and how to conduct user research to best guide the design process. This program is online and teaches participants the foundations ofboth UX and UI design.

Project Examples

Based on your organizational needs, groups of students will follow the general stages of a design sprint to effectively prototype and validate an innovative solution.

Design Sprint phases may include:

  1. Understanding – Gathering information and creating a user journey map.
  2. Sketching – Developing creative solutions to the design problem.
  3. Deciding – Evaluating potential solutions, deciding on the best approach, and creating a plan of action.
  4. Prototyping – Building an example design of the agreed solution.
  5. Testing – Implementing the design and gathering insights from target consumers.

Example projects may include, but are not limited to:

  • Redesigning an existing interface to simplify it.
  • Designing a user interface for the visually impaired.
  • Designing a new interface for an abstract set of features.
  • Developing a new product or service.
  • Understanding and improving website design.
  • Optimizing the customer journey for a specific target market.
  • Designing an online store.
