What IT system improvements, new technologies, or evaluation projects can you implement to help you achieve your business goals? In this project, a team of Information Technology students will help you develop a solution for an IT challenge or opportunity you may be facing.

We have students available from both our Master's and Bachelor's programs in this course. They will have slightly different abilities and skillsets. Please request this project posting and we can discuss which program would be best suited for your project scope.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

All industry partners will receive:

  • Project Plan (including the Statement of Work & Description of Deliverables)
  • Presentation of Solution or Recommendations (webinar format)
  • Final Project Report including an Executive Summary

Additional deliverables:

Other deliverables for this project, which may be specific to the your organization, will be determined during an initial conversation between your organization and the Capella Riipen coordinator. Deliverables will be finalized during the initial meeting with the student-consultant team.

Project Examples

Requirements

Beginning in late January, IT student teams of 3-5 will spend up to 300 cumulative hours working with your organization to develop recommendations to assist you in achieving your organizational IT objectives.

Projects examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Data Analytics- Developing reports, data integration plans, or ETL processes.
  • Data Management- Developing a data security and protection policy, reviewing data architecture, and recommending improved management practices.
  • General Information Technology- Identifying and evaluating new software applications and technologies to meet user and organization needs, or developing prototypes of custom software and systems.
  • Health Information Technology- Identifying and evaluating new software applications and/or technologies to meet needs in the healthcare industry.
  • Information Assurance & Security- Conducting an IT security review, security planning, or developing a security policy.
  • Networking (CISCO or Microsoft Technologies)- Reviewing existing infrastructure for possible improvement or evaluating of new technologies.
  • Project Management- Developing an implementation plan for a new technology, process, department, or organizational change.
  • System Development (Desktop, Mobile or Web-Based Applications)- Evaluating existing applications to recommend improvements or designing and prototyping a new application.
  • Cloud Computing - Identifying and evaluating cloud computing solutions to meet user and organization needs.

Additional company criteria

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Provide a dedicated contact to answer periodic emails or take phone calls to address student's questions and provide timely response.

Minimum of 2-4 interactions with the students remotely, or in-person if feasible (approximate minimum of 4-6 hours over the duration of the project).

Within 3 days of submitting the project interest form through Riipen, be available for a phone call with Capella's Riipen Coordinator.

Be available to schedule and attend a final webinar presentation of project results to be determined by the organization and student team based on program deadlines.
