code review react native mobile application development web accessibility testing user experience (ux) design ui components javascript (programming language) node.js (javascript library) android (operating system) cascading style sheets (css)We are looking for a student interested in mobile app development and working with React Native, CSS and UI components. The project aims to ensure that our app is accessible for users with vision loss which makes up the majority of our users. This will include going through our app pages using a screenreader and making sure that all components are accessible and easy to use, coming up with recommendations to improve our UX design and implementing these changes.
Current features we plan to improve/build include navigation integration, UI Screen creation and Accessibility testing. A student would test multiple screens and work on one app feature and deliver the following work product -
- Use technologies (React Native, Node.js, Javascript and CSS) to develop new features and add value to our existing app features.
- Test existing screens and redesign UI components to meet accessibility requirements
- Using a screenreader on both IOS and Android to test various UI components
- Write high-quality code that will go through code reviews from experienced developers
Onboarding calls with the students to explain the scope of the project and set milestones. There will be weekly check-ins to make sure that the students do not have any questions or concerns. Additional support will be provided on an ad-hoc basis as I am happy to meet if need be. The student will also be able to talk to the other interns for help or advice. The student can also connect to our five technical advisors all of whom have 10+ years of development or computer science research experience! There will also be regular updates that will be provided by the students in terms of their progress.
We will plan to communicate with our virtual intern(s) using phone calls, email and through the company slack
