Details

Our flagship microgrid-in-a-box product performs a variety of advanced energy management functions in order to maximize the energy savings and resilience benefits for the user. However, we have a problem - without an intuitive interface, the user is unable to visualize and truly understand the value being created for them.

The user interface will operate on a linux-based single board computer with a touchscreen display. In the first iteration of this user interface, we are looking for 2 simple pages for the user to interact with:

  1. Performance Page
  2. Configuration page

We are in search of a student who will support the development of this UI/UX, including:

  • Graphical design that is aligned with the Sponge brand
  • Functional application capabilities such as drop-down menus, text entry fields, etc.
  • Linking of graphical elements to data sources

Bonus items for the project:

  • Consideration of future transition to mobile
  • Animations included in the graphics
Deliverables

Graphical Design

  • Develop graphic layout for each page
  • Block formats with data presentation formats in each block
  • Fonts and colour scheme aligned with Sponge branding documentation

Functional Development

  • Translate graphic design into a functional mock-up in a software of the student’s choice
  • Mock up should respond to inputs but not necessarily communicate with broader sponge infrastructure
  • Leverage packaged graphic tools to minimize custom development
  • Sample datasets may be provided for mock-up development

Connected data

  • Develop integrations between functional mock-up and Sponge data sources on local machine
  • Populate performance data from local database, configuration from config file
  • Enable continuous update when user is present (not in sleep mode)
Mentorship

Students will benefit from our team’s industry expertise and will be equipped with a broader knowledge of the energy industry, assisting them in navigating related roles upon graduation. Each student will be assigned with 1 Technical Mentor and 1 Project Management Mentor from within Sponge to assist them through to project completion. A recurring meeting with both mentors will be scheduled in alignment with the student’s schedule and availability. Students will also be invited to join our company Slack platform to support continuous communication with their assigned mentors.
