Details

Team SME at Thought Experiment Labs helps Canadian small to medium sized business owners increase their revenue, boost profitability and modernize operations in the rapidly changing digital age.

Our team relies heavily on information technology (IT) services (alongside emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and blockchain) to manage data, service clients and maximize operational efficiencies.

We want to develop a roadmap for growing our IT assets and capabilities where they need to be to ensure future competitiveness and success in our industry.

We would like to collaborate with students to create a strategic information technology (IT) resource and asset allocation plan based on a needs assessment.

This will involve several different steps for the students, including:

  • Familiarizing yourself with our mission and vision statements.
  • Understanding how we help small to medium sized businesses and how we help serve clients.
  • Completing a needs assessment.
  • Researching industry / competitor IT trends and capabilities.
  • Recommending processes for training and implementation of an IT plan.
  • Drafting budget and costs for an organization of our size.

Bonus steps in the process would also include:

  • Conducting a pilot program with the proposed IT plan and making revisions.
Deliverables

By the end of the project, students should demonstrate:

  • Understanding of our mission and vision statements
  • Understanding of industry / competitor IT trends and capabilities
  • Recommendations for hardware, software, and IT human resources
  • Recommendations for possible training and implementation processes
  • Estimation of costs associated with the IT plan

Bonus steps would include:

  • Modifying the IT plan based on pilot testing.

Final deliverables should include

  • A final report.
Mentorship

Students will connect directly with us for mentorship throughout the project. We will be able to provide answers to questions such as:

  • Our mission and vision statements
  • Our current IT services
  • Input on choices, problems or anything else the students might encounter.

If requested, students will have access to a library of training materials valued at over $5000 USD.
