Small businesses face unique challenges that can impede productivity and result in costly turnover. In this project, teams of business students with backgrounds in entrepreneurship, human resources, and organizational behaviour will analyze your organization’s structure and management to develop recommendations for improvement.

Project Examples

Based on a management issue and challenges that you currently face, the students will research and analyze your organization’s goals and existing structure to provide you with strategic recommendations.

Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Restructuring your organization based on an organizational challenge.
  • Identifying areas of your organization to focus hiring efforts.
  • Suggesting incentive packages improve employee retention and morale.
  • Developing strategies to improve employee productivity and satisfaction.
  • Developing recommendations for your organization to meet a goal or solve a challenge.
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Be available for a quick phone call with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the course.

Provide generic reference letters (using the corporate style paper format) to all the students and individual reference letters to the students from the winning team. Please, consider that the reference letters must be provided no later than 7 days after the final presentation.

Be able to attend bi-weekly office hours (2 hours) with the students (15-25 min per team, 4-8 teams in total).

Provide the opportunity for on-time feedback. Please, remember that the feedback to each team must be provided either during the class after each presentation; or within the next 7 days after the presentation in written form.

The business should be legally registered in Canada. Ideally (but not required), operate in Greater Vancouver Area, BC.

Provide a dedicated contact who is available to answer periodic emails or phone calls over the duration of the project to address students' questions. Please, consider that the emails should be responded to within 72 hours (except for the weekends).
