Student goals and capabilities

Creative Industries Management (CIM) is a two-term post-graduate certificate program in the Pilon School of Business at Sheridan College.

CIM students come from a variety of creative domains, including among others film, television, photography, game design, graphic design, advertising, music, fashion design, theatre, and comedy. They are learning how creative industries are best developed, financed and managed.

Students must complete a capstone project - either a project of their own design or working with an external client.

We are actively seeking potential clients who may have projects suitable to our diverse range of students.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Deliverables are negotiable and will seek to align the needs of the learners and the organization.

Some final project deliverables might include:

  1. A detailed report including research, analysis, insights and recommendations on a topic of mutual interest, with an accompanying oral presentation
  2. Working in a project management, financing, budgeting or content strategy role.

Students will be available for approximately 7 hours a week over a 14-week term, with timelines negotiable given project parameters and deadlines (e.g., the student who worked as a PA on a film shoot worked 40 hours during a key week in the shoot)

Project Examples

Requirements

Capstone projects can be individual or in small teams of 2-3. For externally defined projects, we are looking for cases where students can gain experience managing a creative project. For example, we presently have students working with a small film production company - one was a production assistant on a shoot, another is working on grant writing and fundraising, and another is working on social media marketing and content strategy. We are open to a range of projects based on mutual interest and compatibility with course requirements.
