Course Overview:

This course provides students with the opportunity to work on a hands-on project in a relevant business & management topic area. This is an experiential course and it is designed to foster critical thinking and real-time decision making, with students applying their knowledge and skills to the challenge at hand. We are beginning the Fall semester, completion will be by mid-December 2024.


We have a confidentiality agreement with all “clients”. In addition, the work becomes the intellectual property of the “client” so we don’t share it with others- it is theirs.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Students will be required to share periodic progress of their project deliverables and any challenges with business clients and instructor. Bi-weekly meetings will be held for discussion on the progress and performance of students. Towards the start of December, students will be required to provide deliverables such as written reports, presentations, data analysis reports, websites and process models in accordance with the expectations of clients.

Here is a summary of deliverables offered by CBU business management students in the last 2-3 years, 37 projects with ~200 students.


• 15 New Venture- Business Feasibility and Start-up Plans

• 6 Marketing Plans

• 2 Funds Development and Revenue generation Plans

• 6 Business Analysis and Improvement Plans

• 5 Community Outreach Plans

• 3 Research and Development Plans


The feedback has been extremely positive with several clients having secondary and tertiary projects based upon the outcomes.

Project Examples

Requirements

A team of 5-7 graduate-level students will be selected to work with businesses and non-profit organizations on such things as business plans for start-ups, financial analysis, marketing plans, viability analysis, process improvements, and strategic plans. Students will apply qualitative as well as quantitative research tools for understanding the problems in detail as well as for submitting required deliverables.
