nmap nessus open web application security project (owasp) penetration testing vulnerability web development research
Details

The goal of the project is to enhance the functionality of an existing website, by adding additional levels of security/obfuscation and features that improve the user experience.

The student will become familiar with our product and understand generally how it works. As part of bolstering the security/obfuscation, the student should spend time conducting research on penetration testing technologies and remedies. They should look into common vulnerability lists such as OWASP Top 10, and common security tools such as Nmap, Burp Suitar, Nessus, and Wireshark.

Deliverables

To achieve the project goal, the student will need to undertake the following tasks:

  • Implement best practice security features e.g. two-factor authentication
  • Implement a method for website users to manage their account protection e.g. a way to change the email address/cell number used for two-factor authentication
  • Remedy any vulnerabilities uncovered via penetration testing
  • Provide suggestions for features/functionality that could enhance/improve the user experience on the website
  • Document their implemented features/solutions
Mentorship

Students will connect directly with the employer for mentorship and supervision throughout the project. We're only a Teams call away :)
