Details

One of the most important aspects of starting a position in a new company is the onboarding process. In addition to making us a more compelling company to work with than our competition, we want our onboarding process to promote our company culture to accelerate the learning curve of working for us and increase our employee retention and company structure.

Instead of conducting onboarding in a 100% face-to-face setting, we hope to include a transition to an online course that will introduce employees to their roles, and show them all of our start-up resources.

This will involve several different steps for the students, including:

  • Examine the current onboarding process for new hires to identify what should be included in the onboarding process including forms, documentation and information.
  • Discuss our onboarding practices with current employees to determine their effectiveness and where improvement is needed.
  • Research our own as well as competitorsโ€™ current onboarding practices.
  • Research which onboarding practices are best at reaching employees and making a lasting impact.
  • Create a report detailing all research findings and a new onboarding plan for our company.
  • Reporting on cost estimates and allocating funds in the most efficient way.
  • Establish a logical structure and order for the onboarding process, divided into โ€œsegmentsโ€ or โ€œmodulesโ€ and their content.
  • Research platforms or websites to automate the onboarding process.
  • Create a segment specifically introducing new employees to our workplace culture and values.

Deliverables

By the end of the project, students should complete the following list of activities:

  • Speaking to employees to determine which areas of our onboarding are impactful, and which are unnecessary.
  • Researching onboarding processes and what the most effective methods of onboarding are to make a lasting impact.
  • Researched platforms to automate the onboarding process.
  • Create a report detailing all research findings and a new onboarding plan for our company.
  • Reporting on cost estimates and allocating funds in the most efficient way.
  • Examined the current onboarding process to identify content that should be included.
  • Established a structure for onboarding content .
  • Created a strategic onboarding plan based on all research conducted.
  • Created a report or presentation with a proposed structure for automated onboarding, and recommendations for which platform we should use.

Final deliverables should include

  • A standardized onboarding plan which is efficient, cost effective, and promotes our company culture and values.
  • A 20-minute presentation explaining the onboarding plan and its benefits, to be presented in a meeting with the project manager.
Mentorship

Students will connect directly with us for mentorship throughout the project. We will be able to provide answers to questions such as:

  • What values do we strive to uphold as a part of company culture?
  • What are the current onboarding procedures and events for a new hire?
  • Which areas of the current onboarding procedure work well? Which areas need the most improvement?
  • Input on choices, problems or anything else you may encounter.
