Students in the Business Administration Program (Accounting Option) with College of the North Atlantic are required to complete a six week nonpaid work term placement to qualify for graduation at the end of June 2021. This placement begins on May 10 and ends on July 18, 2021. The required placement will consist of approximately 150 to 180 hours to be completed over a six (6) week period. Securing a financial/managerial accounting related project will enable students to build upon their knowledge base and gain valuable experience related to their program of study.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Deliverables to be provided to a participating company:

  • Prepare and analyze financial statements for internal and external decision making.
  • Use current technology to analyze results and generate appropriate reports.
  • Develop financial and budgetary plans based on varying business objectives, changing business environments, and underlying business assumptions.
  • Demonstrate accounting skills at an intermediate to advanced level for application in the workplace.
  • Integrate ethical accounting practices for use in performing accounting functions.
  • Demonstrate application of the Conference Board of Canada employability skills.

Project Examples

Financial and/or managerial accounting projects including: (1) business planning with cashflow preparation and analysis; (2) financial statement preparation and analysis; (3) new or existing product sales analysis (4) financial/managerial accounting report preparation and analysis; (5) accounting/financial management project consulting; (6) preparation of project/organization budgets; (6) other accounting related projects as requested.
